E-P1 : Black ‘n’ White

Yet to try the Monochrome mode in my E-P1, so I decided to take some random shots during my long weekend in Malaysia to see how it performs. I set the camera to Monochrome mode with red filter and also upped the saturation to +2. Most of these shots were taken at around ISO800.

These are not straight-out-of-the-camera shots because I did some level adjustment to them to give them a darker feel. However, I was pretty impressed by the Monochrome mode as well as the pretty nice grains to them. Here’s the original straight-out-of-the-camera version of the photo above.

I should have played with the other color filters in the Monochrome mode but I … ermm … forgot to do so. Hahaha.

I used the E-P1 to capture some (very) short video clips during Fitzand’s performance in his childcare’s National Day celebration last Friday too. I’ll need to find some time to piece them together before adding it to my blog … hopefully tonight. You might realise that I’ve been blogging quite often about this camera eh? Hahaha. I find it strange too. Maybe I’m loving it too much!

  1. 🙂 good to hear that you are loving it 😛
    Shoot more~~~~

We’ll know when ya sick of the camera when you start a modding project and mount a holga lens on it 😛

  2. I love the puppy photo (: Then again, i love all your photos. Keep up the great work!

P.S. I expected more posts after the long weekend actually. Hehe. Your posts do keep me entertained at work >_>

  3. @Rachel : Thanks. I didn’t take much photo during the long weekend. Spent most of my time playing with Fitzand instead. Hehehe. I didn’t have my notebook with me in Malaysia and thus can’t spend time editing the videos I took at the National Day celebration in his childcare centre.

  4. @irorus : Whoa! Congrats! Hahaha. Bet you love it too. Right? I’m waiting for Cindy to do the same too. She’s addicted to this baby as well. 😀

  5. @cyanwater : We are still waiting. 🙂 We don’t hate you. Buy!

@Irorus : Hahaha! Go MSN her … go call her … go MMS her … poison her!

  6. hey ndroo, just wondering how do you set the pen to monochrome mode with red filter? is it by using the art mode?

  7. @getcapefly : You can go to the Super Menu (think thats what they call the extended menu with many options on the screen), then choose Monochrome. Once you’ve done that, there is an option to choose the color filters.

  8. @Mag : Sorry I haven’t tried 800 film on the FE2. Usually when in low light, I’ll use the Lomo Ringflash and thus iso400 film is sufficient. I’m sure 800 film will work great as well.

  9. Tks for your reply ndroo. so isit tat the built in flash is always not good enough tats why u need to get a Ringflash?

  10. @Mag : Yeah the little built-in one ain’t that strong. The ringflash also gives a overall more even lighting and not to mention the ability to use the color gels on it for some crazy color fun.
