My first blog entry for the year! Happy New Year 2009 to everyone!
For almost 38 years since the day I somehow popped into this world, new years never meant anything to me. This year … it does. For the first time I have new year resolutions. For the first time I am wanting changes to my life.
To hell with puffs! (No, not cream puffs! I am gonna continue loving cream puffs)
After many years of polluting my old lungs with all sorts of crap from smoking, I will quit smoking for good. Yeah, some who know me probably think ‘oh right, that’s the 2,439,499th times you are saying that. This time, I’m doing it for two reasons. First … for my boy, Fitzand. He’ll be turning two on the 5th of January. I’ve never given a damn about having to worry about falling sick or dying, but since his arrival … I’ve always told myself that I wanna be there for him at least for a longer time. Secondly, I wanna save some money. The money from the ciggies and be used for better purposes … like buying more toy cameras. 😛
It’s not gonna be easy kicking the habit but I am darn sure I’ll make it.
A Lensbaby Diary
Wanted to do this ‘a Lensbaby photo a day’ thingie for some time now and decided to wait til the begining of a year to do it. What better way to complete a ‘diary’ from the 1st of January til the last day of the year. It’s a lot of commitment doing this, taking at least a photo a day … but I’m gonna use it to ‘replace’ lighting up a ciggarete instead. Sounds crazy but I am determined to do it. Do drop by my Lensbaby Diary page and drop me some words of support when you have the time.
Here’s the first entry for the year, taken during a sunrise shoot this morning. There wasn’t any nice sunrise scene but it was pretty fun witnessing the ‘first light’ of the year.
The other photos taken this morning with the Lensbaby Composer …
Be cool
Very often the people around me are always doing things that pisses me off. I do lose my cool often and this year onwards, I ain’t letting those crappy things bother me anymore. I’ll just close my two eyes and forget it. I won’t let stupid people and things affect my mood and spoil my days anymore (hopefully).
Lose weight
Cutting down on the booze
Yeah, drink less beer and save more money for toy cams!
Take more photos
I do think I’ve been too trigger happy all these years, so this ain’t really a new resolution. Nevermind.
Happy New Year 2009!
That’s all for now. It’s around 6pm now and I’m still doing fine without a puff. Still hanging tough. Pray for me.
Have a great year ahead!
Yes you can do it – keep it up
Pete, thanks for the words of encouragement. Don’t forget about our steamboat plan. 😉 😀

I have started smoking when I was 18. And at the age of 26, being a heavy smoker (till my lung hurt, coughed like crazy, and still smoked some more) and tried to stop umpteen times. One day, I just stopped cold. Similar to the reason you have, I met my wife-to-be and didn’t want to live one day shorter because of another stick of temporary pleasure. It was not easy but I am the living proof.
You can do it too bro.
Yes, take more photos. Fans like myself would like to see more 🙂
PS. Right now, I am very close to 1 year without a touch of alcohol. After being a heaving drinker … and that is another story … lol.
Cool! You did the right thing about ciggies, but … no booze for a year? Wow! I’ll kill myself if I were to do that! LOL! It is what keeps me sane. 😛
I’m sure you can quit smoking! Use the samed determination you have to take photos and collect toy cameras! 😉
Oh yeah. Created an entry about toy cameras here: http://toyingwithlight.wordpress.com/2009/01/01/toying-around/.
I quit cold turkey after many many years of heavy smoking. It was hard but I’ll never go back. You can do it!!!! Now if you figure out a way to quit eating let me know!
Lensbaby looks so enticing!
