After a rather disappointing test roll on a sample unit of the Blackbird, Fly camera … I popped in a roll of Kodak BW400CN film into my own birdie (stop grinning … I mean the Blackbird, Fly camera!) and was hoping it will turn out fine this time. Took it on a trip to Malaysia when I went back to visit my folks, I suddenly decided to do a double exposure roll … with myself! So I finished taking the entire roll of a same subject … a big wooden plank(!) and then reloaded the roll for the 2nd exposure.
Didn’t manage to finish the roll in Malaysia, so lugged it back and it took me another 2 weeks to finish it. In the end, probably 1/3 of the photos turned out okay. Most of them were underexposed as I fired many shots in low light condition (even in a pub!). Guess I’ll have to try ISO1600 film next time.
Anyway, I was very happy to see how some of the shots turn out. The double exposure made some of them look pretty eerie and retro and I ended up regretting not taking it a little bit more seriously and get more decent shots outta the roll.
nice textures. 🙂
Great idea. #3 and #6 are my faves.
hey there, i purchased a blackbird not long ago. used it several times however, i was wondering whether you find rolling the film up a bit of an effort?
@bob : You mean rewinding? Yeah … it gets a bit ‘tight’ when it comes to the end of the roll. I’ve heard people breaking the rewind lever because of that and was told to stop forcing it when you feel too much tension. At least losing a frame or two at the end is better than killing the ‘bird’. 😀
