36 Frames : II [ndroo]

Once bitten twice shy. I remember very clearly the crazy rush to finish the roll of film for the first ’36 Frames’ challenge … because I was too busy and lazy to do it earlier. The roll turned out to be quite a disaster. This time … for the 2nd challenge … I decided to do it earlier but somehow haven’t figured out what to shoot. The same subject over 36 frames? Suddenly it all seemed so difficult. Hahaha.

Inspiration came one evening when Fitzand was munching his apple. Eureka! It is a little similar to my original plan to shoot a pint of beer but this apple-idea seemed easier. Why? I would usually finish a pint of beer in maybe 5 gulps … and if I were to need 36 exposures … this means I will have to down maybe 7 pints of beer before I can complete the roll!

So I took an apple, placed it in my rice cooker (which is kinda dark grey inside) and using the Fisheye2 + ringflash … I finished the roll in maybe 5 minutes. It was hell trying to eat that apple that fast. Hahaha. Finally it was done and to the lab I went with that roll of Lomography XPRO slides (ISO200). It was pretty late that day and the lab told me to collect it the following day.

Next morning I received a call. I almost fainted. The guy at the lab told me that roll got stuck in the machine and only 12  shots survived. WTH! I needed 36 shots and only 12 came out? I thought of changing the challenge to ’12 Frames’ and giving an excuse that I am catering for people who shoot medium format … but I didn’t wanna cheat. Hahaha! All I could do was to take another apple, this time using a white bowl instead … and did another roll for the challenge. This time I used a roll fo expired Tungsten 160 film because I couldn’t find another other Lomography Xpro film in my fridge. The two rolls that came with my 25th Anniversary LC-A+ turned out to be Fujifilm 100 negatives. They came in boxes that looks similar to the Xpro film and I thought they were slides! Hahahaha!

It must have been a blessing in disguise. It must have been a screw-up turned miracle! This 2nd roll really made me go ‘WOW!’ when I scanned it. I love it! It must be my favourite roll so far since I ventured into film and Lomography stuffs! Some purists might puke after looking at them but I am oh so loving these. I’ll see what I can do and get them all printed together as a large print for my wall soon.

The colors seem a little weird (I love it). I was so confused and wondered why there were no fancy colors on the photos because I used color filters on the ringflash. Hahaha. Guess cross-processing must have removed all of them but the slightly faded and vintage (?) colors seems to work better for me in the end.

After these two rolls … and two apples … I might stay away from apples for a while. I didn’t wanna stand at the table for too long while shooting them, so I ate the apples at a very fast speed. Eeeks! Munch … shoot … munch … shoot. My mouth was full of apples most of the time and I was biting off more than I could chew. Hahaha. Glad I didn’t just choke and die.
