Sweet Sixteen

I’ve kept this Fujifilm Rensha Cardia BYU-N16 for a while now since I ‘killed’ its brother which is the 8 lens version a couple of years ago. I accidentally dropped the 8 lens version when I was running a second test roll on it. Thank God I bought it at a great bargain at S$40 and when it came home in pieces … I wasn’t too sad. Oh well … maybe quite sad because it ain’t easy coming across one of these nowdays.

Anyway, finally I took out the 16 lens version and loaded it with a roll of expired negative to test it out. Blame my old brain … I can’t seem to recall if the 8 lens version has this feature (like the 16 lens one) whereby you can take 16 individual photos one after another … as well as the usual 16 consecutive shots thingie.

Can’t find much info on the specs online but from a couple of sources, the camera seems to have 20mm F9.5 lenses with a shutter speed of 1/250 … and also some pretty confusing info converted from Japanese … ultra-high speed (0.3 seconds), fast (1.2 seconds), medium-speed (2 seconds). I was using the camera blindly and hoped that it will turn out fine.

The numbers on the LCD will be ‘blacked out’ after that particular frame is taken. The little button beside the LCD is the mode switch between fast & normal. Look at the golf ball looking button on the right … that is the shutter button that fires continuous 16 shots (or the number of shots remaining) and the yellow one is to take one single single shot.

The 16 shots are taken on 2 sets of 8 frames … where each set fills up one normal 35mm frame. Ermm … sound confusing? I’m bad at writing, so please forgive me. Hahaha.

This camera is way more fun than those multi-lens cameras that Lomography offer. The Rensha Cardia has auto film advance as well as auto rewind features, which to me is crucial when taking action shots. Well these photos probably don’t demonstrate much ‘action’ but maybe someday I’ll go check out some wakeboarding or cycling event for more fun with it. If it has a flash … I could even photograph my friends puking in the toilet after a big round of booze … or photos of them rolling down the steps of the overhead crossing! Muwahaha!

Don’t know when I’ll be bringing this precious baby for another outing. I seem to have this fear of dropping and killing it just like its brother.

Here are the rest of the photos. Click on the thumbnails to see the ‘pano’ I did by taking 16 individual shots from my window and also one that I was testing if it’s possible to take few individual shots and finish the rest of the 16 frames with the normal continuous shots. So does those work? Oh yeah they do! Suddenly … I love this camera lots!

  1. Boys, stop it! 😀 You guys are gonna cause the prices for these toys to shoot up! Hahaha. I’m still looking for a cheaper 8-lens version to replace my dead one. 🙁

  2. Yeah Noreen … once ur darling gets one … you both can take Edison style photos with this. 16 ‘actions’ rolled into one. Ahem! 😛

  3. Cyan, it should not be super under with 800 film, right? I was using 400 film and all these were taken in some not so bright condition except for the one with Fitzand in orange.

  4. Woah! The pano’s uber awesome!

  5. Wow … what strange cameras you collect. This is so cool! You really don’t need Photoshop when you have cool tools like these (and cool skill to go along too)!

Love that pedestrian walking scene. Not sure if the end results would be great if you were to photograph your friend puking … lol. Then again, I am pretty sure you can photograph just about anything and still looks interestingly good 🙂

Perhaps there is a way you can remove me from that service?
