DIY 4X5

Nah … I didn’t DIY this camera but sharing what I saw in Sean Michael Stimac’s blog. He took 20 hours over the course of three weeks to do this cool looking 4×5 camera. I love the cool blue color on it too … reminds me of the blue version of the Golden Half camera.

Although he said “I’m not a work worker and really don’t have much experience when it comes to making things, with more experience I would bet that this project would have taken a fraction  of the time it actually took.  I screwed up every single piece of wood at least once before I got the dimensions right, or the sanding right, or the cut right, etc” … I think he did an excellent job.

Wonder if I’ll ever get to DIY a camera from scratch someday. Hmm … Perhaps I should start planning on making one myself. Definitely not large format … since I can’t even handle medium format properly. Hahaha.

Check out more about the camera and Sean in his blog here.

  1. Hey it looks great! This camera actually weighs about what my Mamiya 645’s wighed, it’s super light for it’s size, you might be able to handle this one. Afterall, it is just a big point and shoot. Thanks a ton for the honors ndroo.
