Tomorrow will be the last day of the month … and that means I’ll be completing the last photo for January’s Lensbaby Diary entries. I had lots of fun making sure I take at least a photo a day with the Lensbaby, sometimes taking the photos in a state of coma (blame the booze) and also on a couple of occasions enjoyed messing with the zone plate optic.
This Lensbaby Diary project of mine was featured in January’s official Lensbaby newsletter too. 😀
The best thing about doing this Lensbaby Diary project is that I’m able to share with more friends what this fun little lens called a Lensbaby is all about. Some friends who are not into photography were surprised that such fun lens exists, while some who are into photography thought the Lensbaby is something they might be able to have fun with.
I’ve received many emails asking about where to purchase a Lensbaby, which Lensbaby to buy and even some asking me why they don’t see the ‘Lensbaby effect’ in all the photos. 😀 Let’s talk about the ‘Lensbaby effect’ one.
Years ago when I first found out what a Lensbaby was, I always wanted to make sure all the photos I took with it has not only the selective focus thingie, but also the ‘sweeping’ bokeh produced by bending the Lensbaby (that’s what some people were referring to when they mentioned “the Lensbaby effect”). After a while, when I got to know the Lensbaby better, I knew the Lensbaby was not only meant to be used to achieve that “Lensbaby effect”. It’s a weird fun lens that is suppose to be a tool for unlimited creativity and fun! With it, you can even use it as a ‘normal’ lens too … minus all the ‘oh so damn sharp’ crap that everyone is harping about. Forget about focusing and you’ll even get mega cool photos that resembles what you see after 20 pints of beer. Fun ain’t it?
I know the Lensbaby is not for everyone. There are probably millions out there who will argue that the effect can be ‘done with Photoshop’, and some who says that a toy camera like a Holga or Diana can achieve similar results. What they do not understand is the fun of using a Lensbaby. It’s not all about the final result but it’s also about the fun involved in making a photo with the Lensbaby. Oh well … of course there are some who love having fun with Photoshop. That’s a different matter altogether. I love the Holga and Diana cameras and I can definitely tell you … those two cameras will never be able to do what a Lensbaby can. Check out the many wonderful photos in Flickr and find out for yourselves. 😀
To those who love the Lensbaby … BEND ON!
Awesome! Welcome back, uncle! 😀
