It’s too late …

… for Christmas but those fun people from Lensbaby sent me a parcel just in time for the Chinese New Year! Cool! It in … there’s The Muse, a wide & tele lens and also a Lensbaby t-shirt! They probably know how much I miss the old-school bending fun of the Lensbaby 2.0 (which I gave away when they sent me a 3G, to spread a little bit of bendy happiness), so here in my hands now … something that looks pretty similar to the LB 2.0 but has the feature to allow interchangable lenses from the optic kit. Time for some good ol’ bending fun after spending some time with the Composer.

I’ve had many emails asking about the different Lensbaby lenses and which I think is the ‘best’ one to choose. Honestly, they are all fun in their own ways. In my opinion, the Composer is fun to use when shooting pretty still subjects like sceneries or still life, while the Muse is good for ‘quick action’ shots like street shooting. The Muse seems quite a bit bigger than the Lensbaby 2.0 and much bigger than the Original Lensbaby, so it will take a while for my short fingers to get used to. The Lensbaby 3G is one I’ve probably used the least although I kinda love how it looks. Yeah, the spokes look cool but they are a pain in the ass. Hmm. Wait! That sounds wrong! I swear I’ve never let those spokes go anywhere near this fat butt of mine. Let’s just say I find those spokes a little cumbersome. Oh, the 3G has been given a new ‘upgrade’ and now supports the optic swap system and is called The Control Freak now.

So which one to pick? It’s all up to you. Best is if are able to give them a try in the shops to find out how they feel in your hands and figure out the amount of control you need/want. If you point a gun in my head and I’ve to choose one … I’ll definitely pick The Muse or the Lensbaby 2.0.

This is the Lensbaby t-shirt that they sent me. I know this is gonna sound pretty ungrateful and those nice people at Lensbaby might go ‘oh damn! this clown! we’re not gonna sponsor him anymore!’ … but I’ve to be honest … I think it’s ugly. 😀 I’m not sure who designed it but I think the color combo is horrible and the choice of fonts and design is pretty not pretty (I’m trying hard not to be too blunt!). Hahaha! When they told me they’re giving me a tshirt, I was really excited and imagined it being all white with the word LENSBABIES and a silouhette of the lens on it (like some of their web banners I’ve seen). Perhaps it could be black with white prints too. Ermmm … nevermind. Maybe someone from Lensbaby might see this and will find someone else to design their next tshirt. I’m damn sure they won’t be sending me another one after reading this. 😛

Today’s Lensbaby Diary entry is also another photo taken with the zone plate on the Composer. Again, the Lomo Colorsplash flash was used to illuminate the subject while I held it with my old trembling hands in total darkness. 😀 Guess what was I holding …

  1. Cyan, the new Muse allows you to use the new optic swap kit, which means you can swap between the double optic, single optic, plastic lens and the pinhole/zone plate. Also, like I mentioned above, the Muse is slightly bigger than the LB2.0 … obviously the increase in size is to support the optic swap kit.

  2. Cyan … you need to use it often. Then you’ll get used to it. Oh btw, can you change the font size in your food blog? I’m going blind trying to read it. No, not coz I’m an old fart … even my collegue says she’s going blind and she’s not an old hag (yet).
