X-Pro1 Uglified

Before you start reading or looking at the images below … please note that I am perfectly fine and my mental state is (maybe) in the ‘normal’ position. 😀

After I recently ‘blacked out’ all the white prints/text on my X-Pro1 … I decided to uglify it. Yeah … give it a ‘been through hell’ kind of look. 😀 With a little help from Mr Sandpaper … now it sure looks like it has been through some hell.

No … I didn’t drag it for a mile or two. I just gave it a small workout with sandpaper and no … I didn’t sandpaper the LCD behind or the lens in front.

What made me wanna do this to my camera? Ermm … no particular reason. Maybe it is because I’m always hearing/reading how people wanna dress up their ‘retro looking cameras’ to make them look so cool … I wanted to be uncool instead. 😀 Maybe in a few years time … I can tell Fitzand that I used to shoot using this camera in the Vietnam war. No? Did someone say Gangnam war?

I dare do this because I have totally no intention to sell off my X-Pro1. It will be one I keep for many years to come (despite the possibility I might get tempted by some X-Pro5 in time to come).

Maybe I can put this on eBay and sell it for like $5000 … the very limited edition (1 of 1) … WTH Edition Xpro1!!! WTH = Went Through Hell. 😀

  1. COOL!!!! Wonder how much mugs did you have to consolidate the courage for that….

  2. @Jer : Mugs of beer? Nah … not a drop of it. Courage? I have truckloads of that! 😛

@Kahong : Thank you. At least your comment confirms that I’m not crazy. 😀

  3. @ktf design : I bought that from qoo10 (formerly Gmarket) and it is from Korea. Can’t remember the brand (until I get home tonight) but it is very much similar to the expensive Artist & Artisan one. 😀

  4. Absolutely LOVE this! Im thinking of doing this to my XP1 as well! Any tips before I make the “crazy” plunge!?

  5. @Marc : You should tape up the area around the lens mount. That will prevent any dust from getting stuck there and up on the sensor later. Give the cam a good wipe afterwards. Have fun!

  6. Thanks a million. The irreversible project has begun! Ill be sure to show a pic or two! Thanks again

  7. You’re a brave man! Camera looks good, though. I wonder what the silver version would look like…

  8. @Schnurri : I am not a brave man … I’m just one who doesn’t think too much. 😀 😀 😀 As for a silver version, it is not too hard to visualize. Just look at the XE1 silver version … it should look pretty much similar.

  9. So what is that strap! Super retro and cool, just needs some bleach to complement the bad boy look!

  10. aside from the sanding, some weathering and or rust effects would be nice. Cool project.

  11. @jucZzzzz : Thanks! 🙂 It is still one of my favourite cam despite getting weird stares sometimes when I bring it out.

  12. hey man,
this looks so cool. i thought about making my pro1 ugly as you did one year ago…..but my balls wern’t big enough 😉
    looks so dam cool!

  13. I think it looks great although I don’t have the courage to do it to mine. I thought I read something about a Leica special edition that they did that too and charged a bunch more for it. Hey, maybe you just doubled the value of your camera 😀

  14. Mine look like that anyway but with dinks and dents in the lens hoods

  15. I love this effect. I don’t think I will be doing it on my Pro-1 but it doesn’t mean I don’t like it 🙂
My one criticism is that I would like you to have removed some of the paint from the whole of the Fujifilm X-Pro1 Text on the top of the camera, but there are bound to be just as many who disagree. Well done.
