Cooking The Instant Way

To be very honest … I was supposed to cook dinner today. Wifey went for facial and the maid was on leave. So while Fitzand was taking a nap, I went to the kitchen … and decided to cook up something different. I ended up not cooking dinner but still I spent lots of time in the kitchen doing these …

While sipping coffee in the kitchen and thinking what to cook for dinner, I was suddenly inspired to take some photos using the Diana Multi Pinhole Operator (MPO) and the Diana Instant Back. Luckily I managed to find a last (!!!) pack of Instax Mini film and within seconds … I decided that dinner will not be served (at home). I didn’t make up this story. I swear it is as true as it can be. 😛

Can you guess what this is?

It was pouring outside at that time and lighting in the kitchen was pretty bad. Not wanting to hang around in there for way too long (due to the use of the pinhole cam), I roped in the help of the Colorsplash flash. I suck bad at estimating exposures, so these were all taken based on gut feel. I just fired about 8 to 10 round of flash at the subjects and somehow they turned out pretty okay (to me).

I think I accidentally switched the MPO to shoot using 2 (or was it 3) pinholes at one go. Luckily the effect is cool.

I put the MPO through some big time stress test today. This photo above was taken at the stove. As you can see, the camera was pretty close to it. Though you might not be able to see fire, I actually left the stove on for quite a while. The stove was turned on and off a few times but I had to stop doing it because … the camera was getting pretty warm already! Any more heat might melt my plastic camera! The MPO was also subject to cold … as I left it in the fridge in the first photo. Read more about it at the end of this entry.

This one above was the last shot from the pack of film. I looks a little underexposed. I remember halfway though exposing it, Fitzand woke up and was going ‘Daddy!!! Daddy!!!’

We’re now at the end of this blog entry and you might notice that there are only 8 photos. A pack of Instax should give me 10 shots … right? Here’s a confession. Here’s something pretty embarassing. One of the shots went ‘dead’ because I accidentally moved the camera halfway thru the exposure. I hoped it would turn out cool but it went straight to the bin. No … this ain’t the embarassing one. Hahaha!

Here comes something that made me wanna slap myself with my tripod. When I was shooting the subjects in the fridge (1st photo above), I thought it might be fun leaving the camera in the fridge while I go grab something to bite. Some minutes later, I came back to the fridge … retrieved my cold and shivering camera … ejected the Instax film … it was blank. Yeah … blank! Why? Because at that moment I was stupid enough to think that the lights (in the fridge) will be still on when I close the fridge doors! Damn! That was so stooooopid!!! Hahaha! I was laughing at myself but decided to re-shoot that one with the fridge door open. The fridge was beeping in distress after a couple of minutes with the door open, so I closed it for a while before opening it again and fired in a few shots of flash to keep the exposure time shorter.
