Turned tourist

I was on leave yesterday and after helping a friend deliver some stuffs to an exhibition, I joined a couple of friends for a day of wandering around, eating and drinking. We decided to drop by this newly opened place called Marina Barrage. Didn’t know what to expect there, so we just picked up our cameras headed on to the Singapore Flyer before proceeding to the Marina Barrage. We felt like tourists in our own country.! Oh well, we decided not to ride the Singapore Flyer and spent the money on beer instead later.

“Built across the mouth of the Marina Channel, the Marina Barrage creates Singapore’s 15th reservoir, and the first in the heart of the city. With a catchment area of 10,000 hectares, or one-sixth the size of Singapore, the Marina catchment is the island’s largest and most urbanised catchment. Together with two other new reservoirs, the Marina Reservoir will boost Singapore’s water catchment from half to two-third’s of the country’s land area.

The Marina Barrage is the result of Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew’s vision nearly two decades ago when he envisaged damming the mouth of the Marina Channel to create a freshwater reservoir.”

Weather was weird yesterday. One moment it was dead hot and sunny and the next it was gloomy. The cityscape was pretty hazy (did some darn fools in neighbouring country start burning the greens again?!!).

The biggest joke of the day was when I realised upon reaching the Marina Barrage … I had only a roll of ISO200 film in my compact camera and the indoor exhibit was in super low light. Had to take a risk and hope these old hands of mine do not tremble too much, else all the photos from there will end up ultra blur. Fortunately I did pretty well, perhaps it was before I touched any beer for the day.

The other roll was a roll of cross processed Elitechrome that was fermenting in my Horizon camera for quite a while.

Overall … it was a fun day away from work. 😛

  1. Hi can I ask what camera did you use to take the Marina Barrage series? Really like it!! And another qn, where can I develop black&white films?

    Thank you so much!

  2. @kelly : Thank you. If I remember correctly, those (in the Marina Barrage set) were taken using the Klasse W.

  3. @Ndroo: I have a question. Is Klasse W or Natura better?

A hard choice i guess? Both are quite pricey toys to own.

  4. @Beam : You mean the Natura Black f1.9 or the Natura Classica? I’ve not touched or used a Classica (tho the white one is … ermm … coming soon) … but between the Natura Black 1.9 and the Klasse, I prefer the Klasse. Of course it lacks the f1.9 bright lens but that’s something I can live with since I’ll use my SLR if I need to shoot in low light (at f1.4). Anyway, back to the topic … I prefer the Klasse because of the solid build. It feels great in the hand as compared to the very plasticky feel of the Natura f1.9. The Natura f1.9 is more of a point-n-shoot while the Klasse offers a lot more control.

  5. @Ndroo: Thanks for the detailed explanation. u’re making me envy. How much does the white classica cost since it is limited edition? 800SGD?
