Just arrived back here in Singapore this evening after spending 6 days in Malaysia, celebrating the Chinese New Year with my family there. The kids (Fitzand and his cousin sister, Zaydeen) had the most fun during this trip. Guess that is why sometimes when I think back … these celebrations were much more fun when I was young. *cough*
I took some random digital shots to document down the fun filled, waist-extending, liver-damaging and laughter-filled celebration.
As usual, my dad seems to be pretty relaxed about the entire preparation … and (hope he doesn’t read this) wasn’t of much help to my mom when she was working her butt off in the kitchen preparing a feast for the reunion dinner.
My dad. Face hidden to protect his identity. 😛
Mom spent hours and hours at the kitchen. She is one hell of a good cook and we love her cooking … but I sometimes wish we could just dine out to save her from all the hardwork … but she insists on cooking for us. Mom is the best!
Let’s see some of those yummies she cooked for us …
These are just some of the many delicious food she cooked for us. Now imagine us trying to shove down some beer in between meals! Hahaha! We were usually almost too full to booze … but still managed to down some for lubrication purposes. 😛 *burp*
Of course no Chinese New Year celebration is complete with some yummy cookies. No … my mom didn’t make these.
Fitzand wiped out most of these gummies!
A visit to the temple as usual during the New Year, this time made more interesting with the presence of Fitzand and his cousin sister. The temple we went to was about 30 minutes drive from my home and we also picked up some fire crackers for the kids to get busy with at night. Will post some photos of that later tomorrow.
This auntie was busy yakking away that she didn’t realise I was shooting her from a close distance. Muwahaha!
Too dead tired to continue going through the other photos now. It is past midnight and my old body is shutting down after a long day (and a 3 hour drive). What I do know is I’ll wake up tomorrow … realising that I’m now back in Singapore … and perhaps miss my mom’s cooking. On a brighter note … Fitzand’s classmates are coming over for Chinese New Year visiting tomorrow and I bet I’ll have fun playing with the many kids.
Good night and did I forget to wish everyone … a Happy New Year!
Must have been nice being back home.
So are you from MY originally then, Andrew?
We are planning to visit KL and Melacca for a week when we go to visit my parents in Bangkok in June.
I’ve been reading about Melacca and can’t wait to go there.
@Ta : Yeah. I was born in Batu Pahat, a small town in Malaysia. Left there after secondary school and worked in Kuala Lumpur around 10 years before finally landing in Singapore. Since you are dropping by Malacca, don’t forget to bring along lots of film. Haha. Lots of photo opportunities (and nice food!) there.
Welcome back!!! Happy new year!!!
@Jer : Happy New Year to you too. Where’s my ‘angpow’? 😀
What an awesome CNY retreat! Yr mum’s dishes are really *drools*. 😀
When are you inviting me to your parent’s place to try your mum’s cooking?!!! YUM!!!!!!
@Zig : Hahaha! Yeah. I came back with a way bigger tummy.
@cyanwater : Let’s make a trip there with Jim and Shoom. Hmm. Who jaga the shop then? 😀 I’ll get my mom to cook for us for free. Oh … btw … she likes lots of toy cams ya know? 😛
hey! i just realised……how come the stuff that your mum cooked looked almost like the stuff that my Mil cooked?! Malaysian mummies cook the same stuff?!?!
@nelly : Hahahaha! Really? Well my mom doesn’t cook the same stuffs every year. Last year was hotpot and some other stuffs. Maybe Malaysian mommies has some yearly recipe to follow? 😀 It will be bad if it’s my dad who cooks. He is the type who can eat the same damn few boring things for decades and don’t find them boring. LOL
So Yummy! That was some serious cooking. Lucky Dad!
@doublechin : I didn’t take photos of it but wait til you see the rice! Muwahahaha! Yeah my dad is a lucky fella.
@ndroo: in my world, the man who eats the same stuff for decades and never find them boring is none other than the one I sealed my entire life’s of happiness to…………………………………………………..
@nelly : Don’t worry. You are not alone. I know of more than one man who is just like that. Muwahaha! Men! Duh! 😛
