Mud Sold Separately!

About a year after I blogged about how much I want to own this specially designed Diana F+ by Dorophy Tang (read about it here), my dream finally came true with the newly launched Qing Hua Diana F+. Here’s a photo of the original one that I drooled over for months …

A classsic, ain’t it? I saw the newsletter from Lomography and was so excited I could scream but when I opened up the link … I realised something was wrong. This ain’t exactly the one I wanted! Argh! So what’s the difference?

The mud! The soil! What happened to the cool … super cool … muddy/soiled look? Why do I get a feeling Lomography might sell the mud/soil as an accessory later? 🙁 Dorophy … if you ever do come across this blog entry of mine … can you please make another one of the original one for me? 😀

The Qing Hua Diana F+ by Dorophy Tang

Designer and illustrator Dorophy Tang has become the latest to add her unique touch to the Diana F+. This special edition reflects Tang’s signature style, which mixes vintage elements and traditional Chinese influences – known as Qing Hua Ci. The stunning Diana F+ that Dorophy Tang customised as a one-off for the Detrich Collection & Diana Vignettes Exhibition impressed us so much that we knew we had to ask her to create a version that could be made available for everyone! The package also features 4 of Dorophy Tang’s Shopping Baby illustrated postcards. Tang’s trademark Shopping Babies are cute and ironic little fashionista characters, which add that extra something special to this collectible Diana F+ edition.

Dorophy Tang has been causing a stir in the design world for some time. She is a Hong Kong born and based product designer and illustrator, who’s famed for her signature style, which is inspired by Qing Hua Ci – traditional Chinese art and craftsmanship. She loves to mix up this vintage look with modern elements. As well as making a name for her designs, Dorophy Tang’s Shopping Baby Illustrations have become well known and loved for their light-hearted parody of trend culture. To date she’s collaborated with names such as 1000% Be@rbrick, Adidas and the Hong Kong based City Magazine.

  1. @norya : Hmm. Is that some word of encouragement or are you spreading the poison? Hahaha. It is pretty but can’t beat the beauty of the original one with mud and soil.

  2. well, if u see closely the original painting on the diana is very raw hand painted the new version looks so clean on the print…. well still its pretty!!!!! if i got the luxury of $$$$ i sure getting this even i dun use diana… but then again…. im ****ing poor now… Bwhahahaha… and worst… im not healthy enuf to sell my kidney…. last hope is ‘toto’

  3. I like the raw handpainted one. Hmmm, maybe they will be selling “DIY handpaint your own Diana F+” pretty soon.

  4. ndroo : i think his kidney is worst than mine… with all the beer u and him is consuming… bwhahahah

Irorus : i actually like both…. cause if for the raw one i will only put it at home… cause its an art work.. and i bet it will only be in lomo museum 1 day…. .. bwhahaah may b can paint your own… using those nail polish brushes… as for the more modern looking QInghua is to bring out and shoot…. it will definitely catch a lots of attention… wootssss…..

  5. @norya : The beer only did major damage to your livers. Kidneys should be pretty okay. 😀 Btw … what on earth does Qing Hua means anyway?

  6. ndroo: lol…. thats y i can nvr be a doctor.. i cant even differentiate a liver and a kidney!!!!

as for the qing hua mean Qing dynasty…….when they have the blue and white vase…… i used to study this in art history….

  7. i prefer original one with stick on mud and soil and ugly paint work. oh no. it has become a need more than a want to get this. HOW??

  8. feel that the piece they release for sale lacks the ‘character’ of the original one though…

  9. Jst stumbled upon this. Any ideas what kind of paint she used and how she applied it? I’ll like to try customising my Holga/Diana too. 😉

  10. @Ruby : Sorry I’ve no idea. I’d be doing some myself if I could find out what paint to use. Haha.

  11. I’ve used acrylic paint before but it’s too thick and shiny looking. I also used some modge podge over it to prevent the paint from peeling off. But the effect isn’t that fantastic as the surface is feels a bit tacky. May not be bad idea to drop that on sand though! 😀
