Minutes ago … an email came in which made me think I should write an entry to rant about this. Recently I have been receiving quite a number of emails asking me to vote for some photos. It is some online contest where participants get friends and relatives or whoever is in their contact list to vote for their kids’ photos in a few categories. I have always avoided such photo ‘contests’ where the winning photos are based on public votes. Why? I don’t quite agree with this method of picking a winner(s).
Let’s take for example … a category that says ‘Biggest Eyes’. So what if this person who managed to get tons of his friends and relatives to vote for his/her child … wins the contest for this category … while there are lots of other photos with kids with bigger (and maybe prettier) eyes in the shortlist?
Some might disagree (especially those who are desperately trying to win) but that’s just my thoughts. Even with a 50-50 voting system (50% determined by judges), I think this is not really fair. Hahaha. No … I am not ranting because I didn’t win in any of these contests. I’m more interested to win in Lomography’s contests because they give me bucks to buy more cameras.
I know some of you who are reading this are ‘guilty’ of emailing me too. Hahahaha! Don’t worry. Some of your photos did get my vote, not because I happen to know you … but because I think the photo/kiddo deserves the vote. Ya right. You must be laughing why I bother writing this … since my 1 little vote doesn’t really matter. Right? Then why did you email me?! 😛 Nah. Joking.
For those who are in the ‘race’ … I wish you good luck and may your kiddo photo win.
Come to think of it … I think I received at least 8 to 10 such emails recently.
lol. i’m not guilty!!.. i’m too lazy to join competitions… fuck..
yeh, i too dislike these kinda voting. find it unfair in the way that, instead of ‘quality’, it’s ‘quantity’.
@ymmij : U mean they do have competitions to fuck? :O Hehehe. Yeah you got it right. Quantity instead of quality.
ha. ditto. i also lazy to take part in contest.
too lazy. even to shoot. hahahahaha.
and yes, i concur.
if you are good, you need no shameless direct publicity.
i do think it’s logical it’s good to publicise the photo contest. (that’s what the organisers wanna achieve anyway)
you can do a non-intrusive mass blast via fb or twitter or what not.
@saklas : There is a contest that might interest you. Brewerkz at Bt Timah has this thingie that they’ll flip a coin and if it happens to be the side you chose … you only have to pay $1 for that half pint of beer. LOL! Yeah I am getting lazier by the day to shoot. Bad sign. Oh no!
Oops 😛
true enough… I heard lomotion’s theme is also based on voting after the entries have been shortlisted.. Hmm…
@Jer : No worries. Hehehe. At least you didn’t email me. 😛 Good luck on your entry man.
@Anonymous : Oh yeah … the theme thingie is based on voting by the forum members. Maybe that’s why I haven’t won! Hahaha! So far the winning entries are pretty convincing though.
hahaaah….. vote for me!!!!
@norya : Sorry they do not have a crazy funny kid section for kids like you.
ohh chubby little fella 😀
@Mijonju : How on earth did you manage to dig up this very old post? LOL!
lol….yah boy make me come back and read this post all over again… lol
@noreen : LOL! Well I suddenly realise nobody emailed me to do such voting stuff since I posted this. It works! 😛
means they read your blog!!!!! LOL
@noreen : Nah. Guess many started to realise how *yawnz* the way those competitions are run … and stopped trying. LOL. But!!! But!!! There is one competition that YOU MUST WIN!!! Muwahaha! You are getting very close now. I am waiting for the party.
that one……. haizzzzzzzzzzzzzz……. a lot effort… a lot of mental stress……. and really need real talent and a super photographer like u…… hahahahah
@noreen : LOL! Damn. LOL! You made me laugh. Okay, so we talents shall go get drunk … when the results are out (provided you got in). Drunk talents … that’s cool.
