It was back in the year 2007 that I started this bad ‘addiction’ … buying the Diana+/F+ clones from Lomography. I remember very clearly that this friend … Jimmy (from TreesAndShrooms) showing me the MEG version of the Diana+ camera … yeah … it was red (my fav color!) and the told me that we should buy it. So I did just that … and then picked up the Lomo World Congress edition too.
So with those 2 ‘special editions’, a normal Diana+ and an old original Diana from the 60s … I wanted to find a ‘proper’ space to keep them. My dry cabinet was full of lenses for my DSLR at that time and there was no way the Dianas can fit in there. Oh … btw … I’ve sold of most lenses and my dry cabi is pretty vacant now.
One evening after dinner outside … I happened to see this retro looking first-aid box that I suppose could fit 4 of the Dianas. Took a risk, bought it, brought it home and it fitted the 4 Dianas perfectly! I remember being so happy that I took some photos of it …
It was not long later that evil Lomography launched the Diana F+ and the possibility of the camera + flash fitting into such a small box was gone. One by one … the many editions of the Diana F+ cameras appeared and I had to move those 4 ‘pioneer’ Dianas out of the first-aid box into somewhere more ‘comfortable’ …
This image above is what happens now. My wife has not killed me so far for buying all these toys but I’m sure Fitzand has been eyeing them for quite a while now. I originally dumped all the cameras in few air-tight containers but later on got permission (from my finance controller) to ‘invest’ on these shelves from Ikea.
It was just like yesterday that I bought my first Diana+ camera from Lomography. I know they are some (evil) people churning out tempting plastic crap that are sold at some not-very-cheap prices but I’ve yet to break free from their evil spell. Maybe I should go for counselling soon …. 🙁
so neat and tidy/…. i love ya first aid boxs… heheehhe can i have one ?
u need more…!! see the empty wall space beside the first aid box? 😀
@norya : Yeah … u can have the first-aid box. Will pass it to you the next time we meet.
@ymmij : And whose fault is it? Hmpt! 😀 Anyway … the first-aid box is long removed and replaced with the 2 white cabinets already. Any more toys and I’ll have to move to a bigger flat. Duh!
dont need bigger flat. i rent you my cupboard space for free 😀
my mouth is still opened in awe looking at that collection of cameras you have.
The First Aid Box is so Awesome!!
yeah and so do i. i’m still in a state of shock looking at your camera collection…..
0_o an impressive collection.
its always nice to see your blog posts when they go up. very interesting.
keep them coming 😀
hope fitzand liked the poster (:
@Sumlom : I do have some old boxes and trash that I might be able to help you with your cupboard space. Can I send them over tonight? 😛
@Candy : *ndroo splashes cold beer on Candy to wake her up*
@Rachel : Thanks. Well it ain’t nothin impressive … it would be if they were all Leicas. LOL. Fitzand loves the poster. I’ve yet to take a photo of it on his room wall. Haha. Maybe tonight I’ll do it.
WOW! Guess u like colourful cameras!
Great collection dude, super like yr colour-combo for the Blackbirds 🙂
@Zig Ziggler : Oh yeah … I’m a sucker for colourful cameras and that’s why the big bad black DSLR has been neglected often.
hi andrew,
why do i see a thirsty hippo in your shelf? do we have to keep our cameras from moisture? should i do that too?
@Qiaozhi : Yeah I left some thirsty hippos in the cabinet to reduce moisture. Won’t be 100% effective but at least it helps (I hope) 😀
thank q for the first aid box… hehehe…
ehhh i use thirsty hippos too… but some boxes i put those charcoal bags i buy form ‘japan home’ i guess they works the same… absorb moist….
@norya : Oh those charcoal thingie eh? Yeah … those are more compact too.
your collection is poison man, i would die to get a collection like that. haha. my wallet would also die.
@wenlin : Shhh! Don’t let my wife know about this. I told her each cam costs 5 bucks only.
Neat!
hey but with our humidity level here…wont it get fungus even with the thirsty hippo?
tinking of custom made air tight shelves that work like dry cabis 🙂
@geraldtay : Well all the cameras in this cabinet are plastic ones and even if someday I find fungus in any of them … I can just wash ’em. Hahaha.
I wish for a wallet like yours 😀 😀 I’m so attracted to the colors too and with my collection that is barely 1/6 or maybe 1/8 of yours excluding DSLR .. i can feel my pockets are burnt beyond recognition. :X
@xtremefusion : I can sell you my torn and jaded wallet if you want. Hahaha. You just don’t know how much beer I have to skip just to buy these. 🙁
